Lahore: Foundations – Short Courses

Short Courses for Women

Foundations in classical Islamic learning and spirituality is a series of short courses designed by Zaynab Academy to meet the needs of students, young professionals and other busy women who want to progress in their Islamic Knowledge and spiritual development. Classes are held once a week and cover introductory subjects on Quran, Hadith, Taharat, Salat, contemporary issues, women’s’ issues, scholarly tradition, and spiritual development. Students have the option to take as many courses as their schedules allow. These short courses cater to those who are unable to commit a greater amount of time to their Islamic learning. The weekly session this term, includes the following two modules :

1. Islamic Spirituality: What’s Bid’ah and What’s Not

v Duration: 4 Weeks

v  Class Duration: 60 Min.

Module Description:

Referred to as “tazkiyah” in the Quran and as “ihsān” in the Sunnah, this course introduces the history, theory and practice of the discipline of Islamic spirituality and speaks about its basis in the Quran and Sunnah. It looks at the formal development of this Prophetic Legacy, which focuses on purification of the heart and inner reform, and introduces its goal, objectives and practices. The course then focuses on addressing some popular misconceptions regarding this tradition. Questions addressed include:

  • Are different methods of doing dhikar a bid’ah?
  • What is the Islamic basis of having a spiritual Mentor (a shaykh) and should there be mediators between us and Allah Ta’ala?
  • What is bay’a?
  • What do the terms tazkiyah and tasawwuf mean and are they anything other than Islam?
  • What about aberrant practices that lie outside the Shariah?
  • Understand what is bid’ah and what is not. Differentiate between Islamic spirituality and un-islamicspirituality. Let the tradition speak for itself.

2. Spiritual Refreshers: Weekly Talks

v  Duration: 60 Minutes

Join us for short spiritually rejuvenating talks every week to strengthen our Iman, grow spiritually, and draw closer to Allah (swt).
